Word cloud generator
Free Word Cloud Generator — in Any Shape
Most word cloud makers give you a blob. TextShape gives you a shape: paste your text and the cloud fills a heart, a star, an animal, or any image you upload — edge to edge, with the biggest words placed first and smaller ones interlocking into the gaps. Free, in your browser, no sign-up and no watermark.
The generator runs locally, so the words you type stay on your device — safe for student writing, survey answers, and anything else that should stay private. Size words by how often they appear, or place your exact list with nothing repeated.
Word cloud shapes to start from
A word cloud in a shape says two things at once: the words carry the detail, the silhouette carries the meaning. A retiring teacher's apple, a team season in a trophy, a wedding speech in a heart, class survey answers in a lightbulb. Start from a themed collection:
How it works
- 1
Pick a shape
A word cloud here always has a real shape: choose from the templates or upload your own image and its silhouette is detected automatically.
- 2
Paste your text
A word list, a speech, survey answers, a whole document. Star a word (*LIKE THIS) to feature it large.
- 3
Choose the sizing
Let frequency size the words that come up most, or switch on exact-words mode to place every entry exactly once.
- 4
Export
Download a high-resolution PNG up to 4K, a cut-ready SVG, or an animated MP4/GIF reveal. No watermark, no account.
Why TextShape instead of another word cloud maker?
- The shape is exact. The cloud is packed inside a real silhouette — including tight corners — not scattered around one.
- Private by design. The words you type are processed in your browser and never uploaded — classroom-safe.
- Frequency or exact words. Classic size-by-count clouds, or every entry placed exactly once for rosters and memorials.
- More ways out. 4K PNG, cut-ready SVG for vinyl, and an animated reveal as MP4 or GIF.
Looking for hand-picked words in a shape rather than a frequency cloud? That side of the tool lives at the word art generator.
Word cloud questions, answered
How do I make a word cloud in a specific shape?
Pick a template — a heart, a dog, a star, one of the shapes in the themed collections — or upload your own image, paste your text, and choose the Packed fill style. The words interlock to fill that exact silhouette edge to edge, not a loose blob that vaguely suggests it. Every shape on the site works this way.
Can I make a word cloud from survey answers or student writing?
That is one of the best uses. Paste the raw responses — a class exit ticket, open-ended survey answers, a retro board — and turn on frequency sizing: the words that came up most render biggest, with filler words (the, and, of) skipped, so the picture shows what the group actually said. For a roster or a fixed list, exact-words mode places every entry once instead.
Is this word cloud generator safe for classrooms and student writing?
The generator runs in the browser on your device: the text you paste is processed locally and is never uploaded, and there are no accounts. The one exception is entirely opt-in — choosing to share a finished design to the public gallery publishes that design. That makes the editor suitable for student writing, survey responses, and anything else you would not paste into a cloud service.
Does the shaped word cloud survive printing and vinyl cutting?
Yes — the layout you see is the layout you get. Exports rescale your exact arrangement rather than re-rolling it, so a 4K PNG prints precisely what you approved, and the vector cut mode welds the cloud into a single-color file that Cricut Design Space takes directly (Silhouette Studio opens SVG with its Designer Edition).
